CSPR Hold Policy and Legislative Engagement With Members of Parliament.
CSPR in Lusaka 25th March 2024 held a national policy and legislative engagement with Members of Parliament on citizens ’ understanding of the role of the Member of Parliament at the Mulungushi Conference Center.
In attendance were 13 Members of Parliament from Luapula, Western, North-Western, Eastern and Southern Province, Former Members of Parliament, representatives of civil society organizations (CSO)s community members, persons with disabilities and youths from various higher learning institutions.
CSPR Executive Director Faides TembaTemba engaged me Members of Parliament (MP)s on the policy and legislative provisions that seek to connect citizens, legislators, and CSOs to critically evaluate the role of MPs in driving development initiatives at the grassroots level.
The engagement meeting started with a Live Radio and Television discussion on the effectiveness of legislators in the Constituency Development Fund (CDF ) implementation.
These activities are part of the Citizens’ Voice project, a partnership between BBC Media Action, Civil Society for Poverty Reduction, and the National Assembly of Zambia with financial support from the European Union.
The Citizens Voice project seeks to “Build a Resilient, Inclusive, and Democratic Society in Zambia”, and the project aims to enhance the capacity of elected MPs, particularly the newly elected ones, and build the capacity to engage with citizens at the constituency level by making sure adequate information on their roles and responsibilities, and their support staff can facilitate citizens’ parliamentary participation.
